SDOT Planting Trees Along S Myrtle

Seems the little white flags have been replaced by street markings and trees. I noticed som new plantings yesterday, but saw them in action today.

Made it to St. Dames

FINALLY made it into St. Dames for dinner. Really awesome place, Sara and Amy are great! It wasn’t at all packed, but we were there right after work, around 5:30. The food was really good, I had the portobello “cheesesteak” and Tara had the lentil “meat”loaf. We’ll definitely go back, just a matter of getting the vegan troops rallied.

Looks like Othello Partners is starting the process for another building.

“Land Use Application to allow a 6-story building containing 17,700 sq. ft. of retail at ground level and 370 residential units above. Parking for 372 vehicles to be provided below grade. Project includes 52,000 cu. yds. of grading. ALL works includes 52,000 cu. yds. of grading and existing structures to be removed under separate permit.”

What’s Next for Columbia City?

Not trying to sound like a major downer, but with the closing of two restaurants in Columbia City (via RVPost) I have to ask the question. While the economy is still suffering, are there any budding entrepreneurs out there to move into the two new vacancies?

From one point I can understand the closings. Roy’s, Willie’s and Jones’ are all close together, while competition is good, having three BBQ places might be a bit overkill. The same goes for Kallaloo to some extent. Island Soul is right around the corner and as they say, “Location, Location, Location”. Personally, I don’t see CC as the kind of place that can support multiple restaurants of the same type. Also, the economy has a lot to do with that. If people were out dumping money into two competing businesses, then perhaps they’d be able to have a shootout of who can out market the other.

So what’s next? What does CC need? We have a butcher, a baker, though no candle stick maker (that I know of). Thinking about this reminds me of my hometown. Super small, not a lot of people to be spread out over business, so competition was serious. Having more than one bar meant spreading income for just one business over two. Granted we live in Seattle, but trying to lure someone from Downtown/Belltown/Capitol Hill for a night out is hard to do, even with the Link.
